Adrenal
builders
Because poor adrenal function is common in women once they hit
their 30s and 40s, consider herbs that target healthier functioning
of these glands. Men can take these herbs, too.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera). An
effective adrenal tonic. Not recommended during pregnancy.
(150–300 mg/day)
B vitamins (especially B5 and B6). Boost
overall energy and health. Found naturally in brown rice and other
whole grains. (25–100 mg/day B-complex, plus 250–1,000
mg/day B5)
Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea). Increases
physical endurance and combats stress. No known side effects.
(100–200 mg/day)
Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus
senticosus). An adaptogenic herb that promotes
healthy adrenal functioning. Do not take if you suffer from
hypertension. (75–150 mg/day)
Vitamin C. Promotes overall health, including
that of the adrenals. Abundant in citrus fruits. Reduce dose if
stools become loose. (1,000 mg, 3x/day)
Circulation
enhancers
Supplements that improve overall circulation in the body may rev up
your libido because flow to the genital organs will also
improve.
Arginine. An amino acid that causes blood
vessels to dilate, sending more blood to the sex organs; abundant
in nuts and seeds. Do not take if you have a history of oral or
genital herpes. (750–1,500 mg/day)
Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba). Begin with
120 mg and work up to 240 mg daily. Exercise caution if you take
blood thinners or if gastrointestinal upset occurs. (120–240
mg/day)
