Beta-sitosterol

Beta-sitosterol has been shown to inhibit 5-alpha reductase’s creation of dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that shuts down hair production.

60–130 mg/day

No significant side effects have been reported.

Biotin

Biotin, a water-soluble B vitamin, aids in metabolism of protein, fats, and carbohydrates and is believed to be associated with hair growth.

30 mcg/day

Other than isolated incidents, no significant side effects have been reported.

Saw palmetto
(Serenoa repens)

Studies suggest saw palmetto’s fatty acids and sterols hinder the formulation of dihydrotestosterone.

100 mg, 2x/day

Other than isolated incidents, no significant side effects have been reported.

Stinging nettle root
(Urtica dioica)

Compounds in stinging nettle root appear to hamper hormones and proteins that carry testosterone, which may explain how it inhibits dihydrotestosterone.

120 mg standardized extract, 2x/day

Nettle root may occasionally cause mild stomach upset. Take with food to lessen risk of this reaction.
