Ephedra sinica/caffeine
25 mg ephedrine/day; 75 mg caffeine/day

These stimulants increase fat metabolism.

Side effects may include nervousness, insomnia, irritability and elevated blood pressure. Always use under a physician's supervision.

Green tea
3+ cups/day

Preliminary studies suggest that it promotes fat oxidation and increases energy expenditure.

Caffeine-sensitive persons may want to avoid this herb.

Cayenne
5 grams/day (supplement)

Studies suggest cayenne reduces appetite and increases metabolism of dietary fats.

Cayenne may increase absorption of the asthma drug theophylline. Consult with your health care practitioner if taking this drug.
