Weight Loss Recommendations: Supplements

Recommendations

Rationale

Notes

Multivitamin/mineral
Take as directed on label.

This ensures intake of adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals.

Your daily supplement should provide trace minerals, including selenium and copper, which are critical to proper thyroid function.

Calcium
800-1,200 mg/day (depending on dietary intake).

Calcium maintains bone-structure integrity during weight loss. Preliminary studies also suggest that it may help to encourage weight loss.

May increase risk of kidney stone formation in some people if not taken with meals.

Chromium
100-300 mcg/day.
Do not exceed 300 mcg.

Chromium helps to regulate blood sugar levels.

Diabetics, pregnant or lactating women, and those with kidney or liver disease should consult their physician before taking chromium supplements.

NOTE: To create a safe and effective program best suited for your needs, consult your health care practitioner. The chart information should not be taken as medical advice.
