Those with risk factors for intracranial hemorrhage should avoid use; those taking prescription blood-thinning medications should consult a health care practitioner.

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica); 0.6 gram dried leaves or infusion 3x/day. Normal single dose is 0.33-0.68 grams/day.

Increases blood circulation to the brain.

Also available in liquid and solid forms.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis); 4-6 grams/day.

Traditionally used to enhance memory.

No known side effects or health hazards; do not take during pregnancy.

St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum); 900-1,200 mg/day of a preparation standardized to contain 5 percent hyperforin for 4-6 weeks.

Helps ease anxiety; combats depression.

Those taking depression medication should consult their doctor prior to use; interacts with many prescription medications, including antitransplant rejection drugs, anti-HIV drugs, and anticancer drugs.

Wild oats (Avena sativa); drink tea throughout day and before bedtime.

Used to strengthen the nervous system.

No side effects or health hazards are known.
