Hydration begins within. If you want your face to glow, drink
your water. Elson Haas, MD, founder and director of the
Preventative Medical Center of Marin in San Rafael, Calif., and
author of The Detox Diet (Celestial Arts), recommends
downing at least two full liters of purified water on a daily
basis. Shogo Mochizuki, author of several books including
Japanese Facial Massage and Anma: Traditional Japanese
Massage (Kotobuki Publications), concurs. "Even oily skin can
become dehydrated and flaky if you don't drink adequate amounts of
water," he says.
Mochizuki also believes that when applying topical moisturizers,
the method of application is as important as choosing the best
product for your skin type. "Massaging the moisturizer deeply into
the skin, paying close attention to specific acupressure points in
the face," he says, "will stimulate nerves, create improved lymph
drainage and effectively tone and condition the facial
muscles."
