The omega standby

You’ve heard the experts say fish is good for your heart and brain. But what about for your skin? Research shows that the omega-3s in coldwater fish, such as wild salmon, sardines, and herring, prevent cellular inflammation—which, when unregulated, can damage collagen and cause wrinkles, explains Richard Asarch, MD, author of The Beautiful Skin Diet (Ideal, 2003). Omega-3s also mitigate water loss from the skin, keeping cells plump and your complexion dewy. “I like to call fish oil the fountain of youth,” says Goldin. Put it into practice: Take 1,000 mg of pure, mercury-free fish oil up to three times daily. –Cheryl Meyers
